Palmitic acid is one of the most common saturated fatty acids and one of the most common in body lipids: it makes up 21-30% of human adipose tissue (fat). It is found in both animals and plants, mainly from palm oil (hence its name). Palmitic acid is used for many functions in cosmetic products: surfactant (detergent), emulsifier (allows oil and water to be mixed), opacifier or even emollient (softens the skin). It is authorized in organic.
